What kind of visa will I need to attend this program?
You need only a tourist visa to attend this program.
I am travelling first time to India, is it safe for a single woman?
Rishikesh is perhaps one of the safest places in the world and thousands of tourists from around the world visit here to learn yoga and feel at home. The local habitants are really friendly and go out of their way to help the tourists. We have a help desk to help you in arranging safe transport also to avoid any hassles and make your journey more comfortable and safe.
When do I need to pay the rest of the payment?
You have to pay rest of the payment upon your arrival in Rishikesh, before the start of the program.
How should I pay rest of the payment?
We prefer to take rest of the payment in cash. If you want to pay via PayPal or by credit card, there will be additional 5% charges as per banking charges.
What kind of clothes I should bring for the training program?
Clothes should be loose and comfortable, in which you can practice asanas and sit comfortably. Your dress should be modest with minimum show of skin. Your yoga attire should cover the shoulders, should be close fitting in the neck area and arms and legs should be covered. Thin and transparent clothing is to be avoided. Practice of Yoga requires discipline and your clothing constitutes part of this discipline.
I am vegan, can vegan or Gluten free food be arranged?
Yes, vegan food can be arranged for in our kitchen.
When do I get my certificate?
The certificate will be issued at the end of the training program after overall evaluation to successful candidates. This will be purely at the discretion of the school.
What is the evaluation procedure?
You will be evaluated for your practice, progress and overall conduct during the course, inside and outside of the classes. A practical and theory exam will be conducted at the end of the course to evaluate your understanding of the training imparted.
Will I get time to do my own things during the training program?
Your schedule during the week has been designed to give you the best possible opportunity to grow in your yoga practice. The daily schedule is quite packed and you would like to utilize the free time between classes for rest, self-studies or introspection to make the best use of the opportunity. We have extracurricular activities every weekend (optional) for half the day and rest of the time will be at your disposal.
Do I need to bring my yoga mat and any study material?
We provide yoga mats and all study material related to the program but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish to.
What will be the language of communication in the program?
All classes will be conducted in English. There are Sanskrit terms used in yogic literature which have no substitute and help in understanding the subject precisely. These will be explained to you thoroughly.
Will I be able to teach yoga in my country or anywhere in the world with your certificate?
KYS is registered with Yoga alliance, US and Yoga Alliance International and is an Indian government recognized school. After the successful completion of the program, you will be eligible to teach anywhere in the world.
Do I need to get vaccination before coming to India?
Vaccination is not mandatory and it’s a matter of personal choice.
Is Rishikesh mosquitoes prone? Should I get malaria medicine?
Even though there may be some mosquitoes but Rishikesh is not malaria prone zone. We provide mosquito repellants at our school in case you should need them.
What should I bring for the program?
You should bring comfortable clothing, a towel, flashlight or torch, an umbrella, a pair of comfortable shoes and other personal items. The standard electrical connection is 230V, 3-PIN sockets so you can carry appropriate adaptors. We provide everything related to the program like study material, yoga mats, bedding, food, beverages etc. Any other material related to daily needs is readily available in the nearby local market.
Is there a local market nearby?
Yes, there is a local market nearby where small articles of daily need are available.
How much money should I bring?
Accommodation, food, study material etc. are all included in the course fee and Rishikesh is not a very expensive place. You should probably bring some cash for activities outside of the program or as per your need for your personal expenses in Rishikesh. There are ATMs also available.
Do you have laundry facilities?
You can do laundry yourself in our training venue. Laundry facilities at reasonable rates are available in the nearby market.
Do you have any monthly installment plan option?
Yes, after sending your booking amount that is 350 USD, you can pay the rest of the payment in equally divided monthly installments (without any interest) but we should receive the total fee for the program before the program starts.
Should I bring any medicine?
Some participants bring basic first aid like band aids, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory medicines with them. We recommend you to bring diarrhea medicine in case you eat outside food or accidentally drink unfiltered water. Please also bring any other medication that you might require according to your health condition.
Is drinking water safe in India?
We provide safe, filtered and purified water for our participants. There are mineral water bottles available in the local market too, which are not expensive.
How many students are there in one batch?
We keep our batch size small, max. 15 students so that individual attention can be given to every participant and to maintain the quality of our program.
Do I need prior knowledge or practice of yoga before joining this course?
It is a teacher training program so prior experience and understanding of yoga is appreciated but not mandatory. The main prerequisite is open-mindedness and an aptitude to learn and follow this beautiful path.
What should I read to prepare myself for the program?
You can read about the Patanjali Yoga Sutra and any commentary on Srimad Bhagwad Gita. The book Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha by Yoga Publications Trust, Munger, Bihar is helpful in learning correct practice of asanas, pranayamas, mudras and bandhas.
